This is a pic I shot of a flying lapwing (blacksmith). I know its a sucky shot, but I thought it was interesting to see the spurs on the wings compared with the one on the shot you took of the wattled lapwing. Makes you realise they must have come from the same founding stock back in their evolutionary history

I think it's a cool shot Tim. The rim lighting on the feathers is really effective. I'm guessing there is also less cropping taking place, hence more scope for enlargement. It's plagued by the same problem as my shot...it was taken from below against a blue sky. But once the principal has been achieved (which takes a lot practice you can get that image that will win the BWPY). I'm always telling my students to pre-visualise the shot that they want. Work out what you want and you'll know where to stand, when to press the trigger etc. etc. My dream shot requires a tree hide in the Hogsback, Knysna or St Lucia forests, plenty of time a good flash with beamer attached and lots of the same thing happening so I can get it right (i.e. lourie's flying BENEATH me).
