Group f11

In 2008 three photographers, starting out on their careers, decided to keep in contact through a blog page in which they could share ideas, post images and ask each other advice. This has since mutated into a web space where those photographers still meet, but so too do their students and other like-minded photographers.

First Try

Hi there all

Emil - Thanks for the invite to join the F11 group and herewith after many photos with my first DSLR, something that I find "worthy". I just loved the colours and the unusual symmetry displayed by one of my favourite subjects found at Bots.

I still worry about the cropping any ideas

Hi Brian, and nice post for your first shot on the blog!

I really love the colours in this shot. The purple of the waterlily works beautifully with the intense green of the background foliage. My suggestion though would be to throw the background more out of focus as at the moment there's a little too much detail, detracting from the interest in the flower itself. I'd suggest either opening up the aperture to 5.6, or moving back and using the telephoto end of the zoom to isolate the flower itself. The magnification will do the same job as opening up a stop on the aperture, while also squeezing perspective.

Looking forward to seeing more

Cheers
