In 2008 three photographers, starting out on their careers, decided to keep in contact through a blog page in which they could share ideas, post images and ask each other advice. This has since mutated into a web space where those photographers still meet, but so too do their students and other like-minded photographers.

If anybody would like to join all you need to do is email the blog administrator, Emil

Sharp enough or not???

Dear all, panning is not my greatest skill and I haven't shot many panned photos. Now I did one but don't really know what is acceptable or not in assessing sharpness levels in a panned photo. I would like to ask you for your opinion: Is this photo sharp enough or not? Is this photo good, okay or rubbish?

Kind regards,

Nick

Hi Nick,

Lets state upfront that this is a really tough technique to master and you have very nearly nailed it. Lovely saturated colours and a nice clean background, and great movement. Having said that I think it is a little too soft around the head/eye. A tough technique that needs not only skill, but also luck - maybe next time!

Neil.

Howzit Nick

I take back what i said over the phone...the dog is just right in the frame IMO. I think i agree with Neil about the sharpness around the eye, but would really like to see a bigger image before i put that in stone. Otherwise I really like this shot and feel that it's a helluva lot better than a great many published images of the same.

Cheers
