Group f11
In 2008 three photographers, starting out on their careers, decided to keep in contact through a blog page in which they could share ideas, post images and ask each other advice. This has since mutated into a web space where those photographers still meet, but so too do their students and other like-minded photographers.

Capillary Action and NEW THEME
Hi all
Something new for me but maybe not everyone here was a 'studio' product shot the other day which i appreciate and crits on. The brief (on spec stock shooting, Neil might also have tried this) was to shoot a clear glass with a straw demonstrating capillary action. Problems that i encountered were first that food coloured water isn't 'thick enough' to have any capillary effect in a straw and also reflections on glass require the use of an expensive light tent. My solutions were to create a gelatin mixture (sure enough the liquid travelled up the straw) and to heath robinson together a lighttent constructed from dashboard shades clothespegged together. Two strobes supplied the lighting.
and for the new theme...While I was shooting this i though let's maybe do some technique themes...first one 'freeze frame'. Stop motion in some way to demonstrate something about an object, or even a person (using high shutter speed or freezing time with a burst of flash...my personal goal is to do the whole drop of water thing). Have fun
Cheers
E

I like your ingenuity at putting together a light tent and also at playing around with different liquid solutions to achieve the capillary effect. I think the final product photo is great and looks awesome! Well done! No technical comments from me. Sorry!
