As I mentioned last month my aim for the freeze frame theme was to capture droplets of water in motion. I finally got round to it and was surprise at how easy it was. Essentially all it really requires is patience. Now that I've given it a go I'm certainly going to try a few more similar shots.
the 'coronet' was a result of dropping the water directly onto a sheet of glass. This was lit from below with the aid of a home-made softbox.
The second image was towards the end of the series and is probably a little more artistic. The faint tracing lines are a result of the softbox material...something that I'll try to improve on in future.
Then finally, in the opposite extreme...slowing things down somewhat is an HDR image from the Drakensberg taken at the beginning of this month.
Cheers

In 2008 three photographers, starting out on their careers, decided to keep in contact through a blog page in which they could share ideas, post images and ask each other advice. This has since mutated into a web space where those photographers still meet, but so too do their students and other like-minded photographers.

Hi E,
WOW! I think the river shot is brilliant. I love the light hitting the tops of the distant peaks. This image gives you an incredible sense - as if one could simply walk into it and be there.
Very impressed!
Neil.
Thanks Neil
I must admit that while shooting it I was practically screaming yes yes yes while making the exposures. It was just one of those serendipitous moments where everything worked out :)
Nice postings E. As per every month I spend more time thinking through, and about, the themes but never seem to get down to the nitty gritty part of actually doing it! When time permits I am certainly going to try the water drop thing.
In other news, I really like the river scene and think the light gods were definitely on your side. However I must say that I am less blown away than Neil sounds... but I have a theory on that!
As I said the image is really great and had I taken it I would certainly be doing flick-flacks all over the show. But I didn't, YOU did and that is the crux. The image is YOUR usual great image, working with a theme and subject that you understand and enjoy. And I suspect that it is because of this that I am less blown away. So the image becomes another great image amongst an already great body of work. So, this comment masquerades as criticism but isn't really!
Paul.
