Group f11
In 2008 three photographers, starting out on their careers, decided to keep in contact through a blog page in which they could share ideas, post images and ask each other advice. This has since mutated into a web space where those photographers still meet, but so too do their students and other like-minded photographers.

Eletrifying experience
This was taken last week in St Lucia during the photo workshop. Pity i can't organise this every time as the students loved the shoot.
This is a double exposure, taken one after the other and then realigned properly in PS (I jiggled the tripod a bit between exposures).
Any suggestions as to PS work (colour caste perhaps) or to how to improve the actual comp? I included the sign not only for focal point interest but also because I thought it was slightly ironic (pedestrian + lightning).
Cheers

For us trainees, please supply technical detail...ISO 100? shutter speed 45 secs? Less?
ok, it was shot with an 18-70mm wide open, at f5.6 all on ISO 100. The first exposure was 45 sec and the second was 1min 15sec. Basically i just put it on bulb and watched as the lightning struck. I guesstimated when enough light had bounced around as to when to stop the exposure.

oh and i forgot to mention that I painted the sign with my headlamp

Mmm - I'm not sure about this shot. I think that technically it is excellent - great balance between ambient light and painting with the torch. I can't really see any colour cast - electrical storms always seem to appear somewhat purple (why is that?) It is the composition and message that I'm not so sure about. I can see what you were trying to suggest with the sign - but I think the link is a bit too tenuous. Mostly this is because there is no road in the image, but rather water. From what info we have in the image it looks like you were battling to find something to hold the foreground, thus the use of the sign. Now a light trial from car lights illuminating a wet road, plus the sign, plus the lightening …
Having said all that, this will probably sell on Getty RM for silly money because it does have a wow factor! It will be really interesting to see if they take it.
Neil.
